Comets’ 16-game points streak ends with AHL loss


UTICA — The Utica Comets had their 16-game points streak snapped on Wednesday night as they fell to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 6-4, at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The Comets led 3-2 after two periods, but allowed four third-period goals.

Michael Carcone scored a pair of goals to lead Utica, while Patrick Wiercioch had one goal and one assist and David Dziurzynski added the other goal.

Reid Boucher tallied two assists and Griffen Molino, Zack MacEwen, Cole Cassels, Michael Chaput and Mathieu Brodeur added one assist each.
  Comets goalie Thatcher Demko finished with 19 saves on 24 shots and his record fell to 17-8-6.

Lehigh Valley goalie John Muse stopped 36 shots to improve his record to 6-1-0.

Phil Varone had a three-goal hat trick for the Phantoms.

Utica is back in action at the Aud on Friday night as the Comets take on the Laval Rocket in a 7 o’clock start.
