Henckel in College World Series with Gonzaga

Matthew Henckel, the son of Rome native Colleen (Dolan) Henckel and Chris Henckel and the grandson of Carol Dolan of the Town of Lee and the late Francis (Red) Dolan, is a member of the Gonzaga University baseball team which has qualified for regional play in the College World Series.

Matthew Henckel, who now resides in Gig Harbor, Wash., is a junior left-handed pitcher. He has appeared in three games and has not allowed an earned run in five innings.

Gonzaga defeated Pepperdine, 17-2, on Saturday to win the West Coast Conference Tournament in Stockton Calif. and qualify for regional play in the CWS.

The Zags are seeded No. 3 in the double-elimination Minneapolis Regional scheduled to begin on Friday and will play second-seeded UCLA in their first game. Host school Minnesota and Canisius are the other teams in the regional.
