Rutkowski named UC alternate captain

UTICA — The Utica College men’s ice hockey team has announced that Rome’s Joey Rutkowski will serve as one of the team’s alternate captains next season.

Junior Jarrod Fitzpatrick has been named the team’s primary captain by a player vote. Joining Fitzpatrick will be four alternate captains also selected by a team vote. In addition to Rutkowski, a junior defenseman, those players are sophomore center Josh Haskin, junior defenseman Daniel Fritz and junior right wing Jacob Gerson.

Rutkowski has been with the Pioneers for one-and-a-half seasons after entering the program as a midseason transfer from SUNY Oswego in January 2018. He had a career best 10 points this season.

UC also announced its award winners for the season, with most valuable player honors going to graduating senior forward and captain Gregg Burmaster of Clinton. Also among the award winners was freshman forward JT Entelisano of Rome, who was honored as the team’s most improved player.
