HAMILTON — For the second straight week and third time this season, Braeden Smith of the Colgate men’s basketball team has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.

Smith averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 67 percent (14-of-21) from the field to help Colgate open Patriot League play 2-0. The Raiders knocked off Loyola 101-67 and bested Lehigh 76-60.

The first-year guard is coming off a career-high 24 points against Lehigh, his third 20-point game of the season and second in the last three games. He finished 8-of-13 from the field and was perfect (7-for-7) from the free throw line.

Smith registered 15 points, a career-best nine assists, and three steals in Colgate’s league-opening win over Loyola last Friday. He was 6-of-8 from the field while helping the Raiders connect on 67 percent from the field with 27 assists on 39 made field goals – all season-high offensive productions.

This marks Smith’s third weekly honor of the season – each coming after a 20-point performance. He earned Rookie of the Week honors last week after posting a previous career-best 23 points against Cornell on Dec. 30.

Smith ranks sixth in the Patriot League in field goal percentage (56.1) and commands an offense that ranks third nationally in the same category, as well as third in 3-point field goal percentage, 13th in assist-turnover ratio, 16th in assists per game, and 33rd in scoring offense.
