Colgate women's hockey player Danielle Serdachny will don the Canadian maple leaf once again as she was selected to represent her home country in the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship held in Brampton, Ontario.

Serdachny, a senior captain for Colgate, scored 25 goals and dished out 46 assists for 71 points in 40 games this season. The senior broke multiple school records — points in a career (178), assists in a career (118) and single-season points (71).

The Edmonton native was a runner-up for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, was named ECAC Hockey Player and Forward of the Year, Wayne Dean Sportsmanship Award winner, and was named to multiple first-team honors.

She is the first active player to make Canada’s women’s world roster. Alum Jessie Eldridge (class of 2019) made the team post-college.

Serdachny made her international debut when she represented Team Canada over the winter as part in the USA/Canada Rivalry Series on Dec. 15 and 19. In the two games, Serdachny scored her first international goal and the overtime game-winner in Canada’s 3-2 win.

“Danielle’s selection to represent Team Canada is a reflection of her drive to become the best version of herself,” head coach Greg Fargo said. “We are thrilled for her to be able to once again showcase her abilities on this stage with and against the best players in the World.”

Team Canada kicks off the competition Wednesday against Switzerland in its first of four round-robin games. Canada is in Group A alongside Japan, Czechia, Switzerland and the United States. Group B comprises Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Germany and France.
