Colgate gives up late goals in hockey loss


CANTON — The Colgate men’s hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to St. Lawrence on Friday night after giving up three goals in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Paul McAvoy and Nick Austin each scored a goal for the Raiders and Trevor Cosgrove assisted on both goals tying his career-high.

McAvoy scored with 3:04 to go in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.

Austin’s third period goal tied the game at 2-2 after St. Lawrence scored in the second period to give them and early lead.

The Saints then went on to score their three unanswered goals to put the game away.

Colgate senior goalie Bruce Racine stopped a career-high 34 shots.

Colgate continues its North Country road trip tonight as they travel to Potsdam to take on Clarkson at Cheel Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7.
