HARTFORD, Conn.— Pierson Brandon scored the lone goal for Colgate, a second period tally that was not nearly enough to overcome UConn in a 6-1 men’s hockey loss Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies got on the board first with a goal from Marc Gatcomb eight-and-a-half minutes into the game. UConn doubled its lead with 4:19 remaining in the period when Hudson Schandor scored.

Two minutes later the Raiders answered back. Brandon scored off the rebound of a shot by Colton Young as Colgate pulled back within one at 2-1.

The Huskies then scored three goals in the second period with Nick Capone, Artem Shlaine and Carter Turnbull each finding the back of the net.

Mitch Benson and Carter Gylander split time in net for the Raiders, with Benson making 20 saves in the first two periods and Gylander making eight in the final stanza.

Colgate is back on the road for two conference games this weekend. The Raiders play Clarkson on Friday and St. Lawrence on Saturday. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.
