Colgate completes weekend sweep of ECAC hockey contests

PRINCETON, N.J. – With a 4-3 win at Princeton Saturday, the Colgate men’s hockey program completed a weekend sweep in ECAC hockey action.

Tyler Penner scored 59 seconds into the game to start the scoring for Colgate before Princeton scored twice to take a 2-1 lead.

With under five minutes left in the second period, Colgate’s John Snodgrass tied the game with his first goal of the season.

Jeff Stewart then gave Colgate a 3-2 lead with his third goal in the last four games before teammate Bobby McMann scored with 8:02 remaining for a two-goal lead.

Princeton scored 30 seconds later but could get no closer.

Freshman goaltender Mitch Benson posted a 31-save performance for the win.

With the 5-4 win over No. 3 Quinnipiac on Friday and Saturday’s victory at Princeton, Colgate managed its first conference road sweep since Jan. 14-15, 2015 at Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

Colgate is now 6-10-2, with a 3-3-2 conference record.

The Raiders returns to Class of 1965 Arena this weekend, when it hosts UMass Lowell in the final non-conference series of the season.
