Hamilton College’s Smith named NESCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

CLINTON — Hamilton College junior goalkeeper Caity Smith of Kingston, Mass., was selected the NESCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Smith made a career-high 10 saves, including seven in the second half, in a 2-1 conference victory over Bowdoin College on Saturday — the only match last week for the nationally ranked No. 16 Continentals. Smith’s clutch performance allowed Hamilton to remain unbeaten at 8-0-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the NESCAC.

Smith is one of the conference leaders in several goalkeeper categories. She leads the NESCAC with 6.63 saves per match, is third with a .914 save percentage and fourth with a 0.69 goals against average. She has also been a part of three shutouts in her seven starts. Smith is the second Continental who has been named player of the week by the conference.

Smith and Hamilton beat SUNY Oswego 3-1 in a non-conference road match Tuesday. Smith made one save and allowed one goal in 86 minutes of playing time.

The Continentals host Trinity College for another NESCAC match on Saturday, Oct. 16.
