CLINTON — Clinton girls varsity ice hockey team co-captain Mia Lopata, a senior defenseman, is the Section III player of the year. The team also had two first team all-league players and two more on the second team.
The Warriors finished the shorten season 5-0, extending their unbeaten streak to 19 games. The team is made up of players from various local schools.
Lopata also won the award last season when the team won its first state title. A captain for four years, she is the program’s all-time leading scorers with 71 points. This year she scored six goals (including one game-winner) and had four assists. She will attend Quinnipiac University next year, where she will play Division I hockey for the Bobcats.
Rome Free Academy sophomores Drew Kopek (forward) and Alyssa Nardslico (defenseman) were named to the league’s first team.
This was Kopek’s second straight time selected to the first team. She played in four games this season, scoring three goals and adding three assists, putting her second on the Warriors’ all-time scoring list. Nardslico played in four games this season, scoring a goal and adding three assists. Her lone goal was a game winner.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill senior Perri Cronk (defenseman) and Clinton junior Finley Davignon (forward) were chosen to the second team.
Cronk played in five games this season. She had four assists. She will play Division III hockey next season at Kings College in Pennsylvania.
Davignon played in four games this season, scoring a game-winning goal.
Three Warriors were also all-league honorable mentions: RFA senior forward Ari Williamson, Clinton sophomore forward Sadie Davignon and Whitesboro eighth grader Casey Clausen (goaltender).
