Clinton girls hockey team begins season with shutout win


The Clinton girls ice hockey opened its season with a 5-0 home winover Ithaca Tuesday on senior night.

Clinton senior captain Mia Lopata scored and had an assist, as did Drew Kopek of Rome Free Academy. RFA senior Ari Williamson also scored for the unified team that has players from six local school districts.

Clinton’s Sadie Davignon scored her first career goal and her sister Finley also scored in the win.

Tallying assists for the Warriors were RFA’s Alyssa Nardslico and Madison Dery of Clinton.

Casey Clausen, an eighth grader from Whitesboro, stopped all nine shots she faced for her first career shutout in net for Clinton.

The Warriors, who won the state title last season, extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games. They’ll host Oswego at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Oneida overpowers Camden

Sydney Lusher and Kaylin Curro each recorded a double-double for the Oneida girls basketball team as they rolled over visiting Camden, 56-19, Tuesday.

Lusher scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. She dished out nine assists and had nine blocks. She also had five steals.

Curro also scored 15 points and had 11 boards for the Indians. Jordan French scored a team-high 16 points for the Indians.

Oneida is 4-1 on the season.

Remsen sweeps Adirondack

In a girls Center State Conference volleyball game Tuesday, Remsen defeated Adirondack, 5-0. Game scores were 25-12, 25-19, 25-11, 25-8 and 25-20 all in favor of Remsen.

McKenna Jones had six aces, 10 kills and three blocks for the the Rams. Madelyn McCormick finished with five aces and 19 kills and Chelsea Barnhart finished with five aces and 19 assists for the 1-0 Remsen team.

No stats for Adirondack were available.

Canastota falls

The Canastota boys volleyball team fell in three games to Chittenango Tuesday, 3-0, on the road. It was the first match of the season for both teams.

The Bears won the games 25-9, 25-12 and 25-15.

Canastota’s Zeek Percival had five kills, three assists and two digs. Teammate Ethan Debrucque had four assists and thee digs. Rossi Brown had eight digs.

Chittenango’s Jake Simmons had four aces, 23 assists and two digs. Alek Reymond had 15 kills, two assists and two digs.
