Clarkson skates past Colgate

HAMILTON — No. 15 Clarkson skated away with a 4-1 road win against Colgate Friday.

Alex Young scored in the third period, but the Raiders were unable to cut into the Golden Knights' lead any more.

The Knights scored a goal in each of the first two periods and two in the final stanza.

The Golden Knights struck during a four-on-four when Ayrton Martino ripped a one-timer into the back of the net.

Seven minutes into the second period Clarkson doubled its lead. Martino took the puck away from a Raiders' player and passed it to Zach Tsekos who was able to put a shot past goalie Mitch Benson.

Clarkson added two more in the final period. Six minutes in, Alex Campbell scored off a pass from behind the net. Tsekos then netted his second of the night to make it 4-0 Golden Knights a few minutes later.

Less than a minute later, the Raiders got on the board when Elliott McDermott collected the puck off a face-off win by Josh McKechney. McDermott passed to Colton Young who got free on a breakaway and passed to brother Alex Young. He finished on a shot from close range.

Colgate had one final power-play chance with four minutes remaining in the game but was unable to cut into the lead.

Benson made 22 saves in the loss.

Colgate hosts St. Lawrence for senior night at 7 on Saturday night at the Class of 1965 Arena.
