Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems, LLC, d/b/a Verizon Wireless, tenant of 1840 Black River Blvd., is seeking to construct a communications facility which would consist of a 120-foot monopole tower within a 6,400 square-foot lease area.

The 120-foot tower is situated 60-feet from both the southern and western property lines. Bell Atlantic has requested a special use variance for a wireless telecommunications facility in a C-2 zone. They have also requested an area variance because all telecommunication must be setback from all adjacent property lines a sufficient distance to safeguard the public and adjacent properties.

A communications tower is currently located on the roof of Rome Towers apartment complex, but petitioners said the owner does not wish to extend the lease on the cell tower.
