City historian steps down in Oneida; Common Councilors name replacement

ONEIDA — The city’s historian Kathy Erdo has stepped down from her position. Taking her place will be Andrea Hitchings, who also currently serves as the city’s deputy clerk.

During a council meeting on Tuesday night, councilors received and placed on file Erdo’s letter of resignation and authorized Oneida Mayor Helen Acker to sign an agreement with Hitchings. Acker said that Erdo chose to resign due to having too many family obligations at this time.

Erdo currently serves as an administrative aide at the Oneida City Fire Department.

With Hitchings willing to step in, the city will be “in good hands,” Acker said.

Hitchings’ role as city historian is under a private contract and is separate from her role as deputy clerk, Acker said.

The next City of Oneida Common Council meeting is on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.
