Cinema Capitol hosts Oscar nominations watch party

Posted

ROME — The public is invited to wake up with the stars and watch the 95th Oscar nominations announcements from 7 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Cinema Capitol, 230 West Dominick St.

Complimentary coffee and pastries will be supplied by superofficial. There will also be a contest to predict the nominees and win prizes.

Capitol Arts Complex Administrative Assistant AJ Parker has been waking up to watch the Oscar nominations for years.

“Eight years ago, I woke up at some inexplicable hour for the first time to watch the Oscar nominations,” Parker said. “Every year you think you know what’s going to happen and try to predict them. Sometimes, even when you think you do, you definitely don’t.”

At any regular matinee or evening Cinema Capitol screening guests can visit the concession stand. This morning is no exception. In addition to the complimentary morning coffee and pastries, the concession stand will be open and offer for sale, candy, soda and popcorn.

“As silly as it seems to ask people to get up so early in the morning and eat popcorn, the truth is, it wouldn’t be a Cinema Capitol event without it,” said Capitol Arts Complex Administrative Assistant Darian Deeley.

The first early morning Oscar Nominations watch party held at Cinema Capitol was in 2019. Capitol Art Complex Marketing Manager Rick E. Lewis remembers the occasion well.

“We did it as a lark,” Lewis said. “The weather outside that morning was subzero and we didn’t know if anyone would even show up. But to our surprise, more than a dozen people did. So now, it’s a tradition!”

This event is free and open to the public. For more information and details, visit www.RomeCapitol.com.
