Chittenango effort to aid educators, businesses

CHITTENANGO — In advance of Teacher Appreciation Month in the first week of May, the Greater Sullivan Area Chamber of Commerce and the PTAs of Bolivar Road Elementary, Bridgeport Elementary, and the Chittenango Middle School are partnering to honor the staff of the Chittenango Central School District while also helping to support local businesses.

The “Schools to Shops Educator Appreciation Initiative” aims to purchase all 385 staff members of the school district, whose hard work and dedication have allowed the district to offer safe in-person learning options since the school year began in September a gift certificate to a local business. “I think everyone in this community really appreciates what our school district has been able to accomplish over the past year and there’s a ton of love for all the wonderful staff members we have there, the teachers, the aides, the administrators, the maintenance staff, everybody,” said Derrick Pratt, GSACC’s board president.

Over the course of the next month, the Greater Sullivan Area Chamber of Commerce will accept traditional donations, as well as through a GoFundMe page. So far, they have raised more than $1,500 towards its goal of $4,000, which will ensure that each CCS staff member receives a $10 gift certificate.

To contribute, visit the Greater Sullivan Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page or send a check to 119
Genesee St, Chittenango.
