Children’s author visit in Old Forge

OLD FORGE — Every year the Old Forge Library hosts an annual children’s author visit for local school children and home-schooled students, with this year’s visit by acclaimed children’s book author and illustrator Matt McElligott starting at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 7.

McElligott will do several talks throughout the course of the morning, geared toward students in different age groups.

The event is free. Times are: Grades 4-6, 9:15-10 a.m.; Grades kindergarten through first, 10:10-10:40 a.m.; and Grades 2-3, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

McElligott is the creator of numerous picture and non-fiction books, including Even Monsters Need Haircuts, Even Aliens Need Snacks, and Mad Scientist Academy: The Dinosaur Disaster. McElligott is known as an enthusiastic speaker who excites students about reading and writing, and shares stories of his career as a working writer and illustrator. 

He grew up outside Albany and still lives in that area. When not working on illustration and children’s books, he spends time teaching as a professor at Sage College of Albany where he is the chair of the Art and Design Department.
