Child endangerment charged in Utica
UTICA — A Utica woman is accused of reckless behavior behind the wheel when she parked in the pedestrian crosswalk outside the Oneida County Office Building on Friday, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies said Amanda M. Schorer, 34, parked her Chrysler Pacifica in the pedestrian crosswalk in front of the office building at about 11:37 a.m. Friday while she ran inside to grab some paperwork. Deputies inspected the vehicle and determined that she did not have the proper safety seats for her 1 and 4-year-old children.
When Schorer returned to her vehicle, a deputy attempted to speak to her about the safety seats. Authorities said Schorer drove away while the deputy was talking to her at her driver’s side window, causing the deputy to stumble onto Park Avenue.
Following an investigation, Schorer was charged on Monday with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of reckless endangerment, along with several vehicle and traffic tickets.
She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
