Chase ends with multiple charges

YORKVILLE — A Utica man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement officials said he led them on a brief chase through Yorkville. Village Police said they attempted to pull over 33-year-old Raymond E. Colon on Whitesboro Street at about 2:39 a.m. Dec. 30.

Police said Colon failed to stop and instead sped forward, leading officers on a brief pursuit. When Colon did stop, authorities said he climbed out of his Toyota Scion and fled on foot. Police said Colon was caught a short distance away, and he continued to struggle with the officers. A loaded 9mm pistol was taken off Colon during the scuffle, police stated.

Colon is charged with one count each of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, second and third-degree possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, driving while intoxicated, drinking while driving, failure to use designated lane, failure to comply and running a red light, police stated. He was arraigned in court and was sent to county jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or bond.

Colon is scheduled to reappear in court.
