Charlotte Griessen, 97, of Lee Center, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born in Glenmore on December 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Vitek) Szewczyk. Charlotte was a 1938 graduate of Rome Free Academy and later graduated from the Eastern Academy of Laboratory Techniques in Utica. On October 2, 1942, she was united in marriage to Alfred M. Griessen. He passed away on December 12, 2011.
Charlotte was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center and she was a charter member of Lee American Legion 1794 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Lee Unity Senior Citizens.
Charlotte is survived by: a daughter, Patricia Lieber of Oriskany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: a son-in-law, Karl Lieber; three sisters, Tessie Sandholzer, Frances Erwin and Helen Reh; and two brothers, Joseph and Chester Szewczyk.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlotte’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph’s Church Memorial Fund.
