Charles Augustus Weidenfeller, Jr.
Charles (Chuck) Weidenfeller has left us way too soon after a tragic bicycle accident on May 1, 2022. We are grateful, however, that we recently celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends in several wonderful shared experiences. Chuck was loved by all who knew him as he lived life to the fullest, always with a positive attitude and a friendly spirit.
He was born on April 15, 1942, and raised in Rome, NY. After his graduation from Rome Free Academy, he spent his college days at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. There he joined the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and met his future wife, Jackie, while earning a degree in business administration. Following three years of service in the U.S. Navy, he and Jackie married and have lived in Rockville, MD, for the last fifty-four years, as well as in Naples, FL for the last decade.
Chuck enjoyed a stellar business career, marketing supercomputers to his favorite customer in Ft. Meade, MD, by offering the best products to help our country stay safe that Control Data and then Cray Research could provide. He was known particularly for being genuine, honest, and intelligent, as well as affable, in all his dealings.
In their leisure time, Chuck and Jackie were able to enjoy twenty years of biking excursions all over the USA and the world. Chuck also took enormous pride in his family: his wife, Jackie, his two fine sons, Jeffrey and Scott, and his grandchildren, Lindsay, Abigail, Charlie, and Maggie. Chuck was also extremely fond of his siblings, Bill and Ann, and his daughter-in-law, Colleen. He will be cremated and then celebrated at a service in Maryland this summer. All who knew him will cherish the memories of this fine, loving, cheerful, and honorable man and be grateful for times shared over his very quality eighty years with us. For those wishing to honor Chuck, a contribution may be made to one of his favorite charities, the C&O Canal Trust (https://www.canaltrust.org) or the Harry Chapin Food Bank (https://harrychapinfoodbank.org).
