SMITHFIELD — A man and woman are both facing multiple charges after they led law enforcement officers on a pursuit through multiple towns in Madison County in a stolen U-Haul, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Brandon E. Garlock, 31, of Canastota, and Kayla R. Hall, 20, of Oneida, were spotted on May 3 driving on North Court Street in Wampsville in a U-Haul truck that had been reported stolen out of Otsego County. Deputies attempted to pull them over, only for Garlock and Hall to hit the gas and take off.

Deputies pursued the pair and the stolen truck through several townships before they pulled off into a field on Old County Road in Smithfield. Authorities said Garlock and Hall left the vehicle behind and fled into a heavily wooded area.

The pair were taken into custody following a brief search. Deputies said they were found with a quantify of methamphetamine and drug packaging materials.

Hall and Garlock are both charged with one count each of third, fifth and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, first and third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, second-degree use of drug paraphernalia, and fourth and fifth-degree possession of stolen property.

Hall, the driver, is additionally charged with one count each of third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, failure to obey, driving with improper plates and speeding, authorities stated.

Hall and Garlock are both scheduled to appear in court.
