COLUMN: Changes can be good

Here we are, on the cusp of the end of summer and beginning of fall. School has started, the weather is getting cooler as the color of leave change to bright reds, oranges, and yellows. As seasons mark the changes in nature, we are marking them by those we have lost, new members of our families, a new job, or finally grabbing that brass ring of retirement. Change can be good, but it also can be lonely, scary, or not what you had imagined it to be.

Having trust in the faith of God who guides us to a place where we can flourish and grow —with growth comes changes.

I found a great poem about change I’d like to share:

This life is a wonderful gift .. accept it, embrace it.

It starts with a new day .. wake up and greet it.

Life is a challenge .. take it head on and meet it.

Full of opportunity .. use it, don’t waste it.

This life is a mystery .. unfold it, solve it.

It starts with meaning .. wake up and understand it.

Life is a goal .. take it head on and achieve it.

Full of promise .. fulfill it but keep it.

This poem by Danny Joyce called “That’s Life” concludes with the lines:

That life is life .. live it, learn and grow

Life is good .. be good with all that you know.

Life can be harsh, but when we believe in faith and that everything in control, we can allow ourselves to grow and change without fear or hesitation. Let us move forward, into change and embrace life, family, and friends.
