ONEIDA — The city is officially a Purple Heart City after a dedication ceremony on Monday, joined by members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and several area veterans.

“On behalf of the members of the Central New York Military Order of the Purple Heart and all recipients of the Purple Heart, I thank the city of Oneida for joining New York’s 22nd Congressional District including several counties, cities, and towns for designating as a Purple Heart City,” said Joseph Fraccola, commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart CNY Chapter.”

This designation, the commander said, honors all of Oneida Purple Heart recipients whose service and sacrifice won’t be forgotten.

At each entrance to the city of Oneida, a sign has been placed declaring Oneida to be a Purple Heart city.

“We acknowledge the recipients of the Purple Heart and perpetuate their memory,” Fraccola said. “Oneida city residents should be proud that they support our active military personnel still fighting and protecting the freedoms we enjoy and hold dearly today.”
