Cardone on All-Region baseball team


Whitesboro graduate and Utica University sophomore pitcher Ryan Cardone has earned an honor from his baseball season.

Cardone was picked to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III Region 3 All-Region Third Team.

He compiled a 5-2 record this season with a 3.08 earned-run average and a 1.19 WHIP over 10 appearances, nine starts and a team-high 55.1 innings pitched that included two complete games and one shutout. Over 217 batters faced the sophomore allowed 54 hits for a .249 opponent batting average while just six hits allowed went for extra-bases. He also struck out 44 batters to just 12 walks allowed. Within the Empire 8 Conference, Cardone ranked in the top-five in wins, ERA, complete games, shutouts, opponent batting average and top-10 in innings pitched and strikeouts.

Cardone was previously selected to the All-Empire 8 Second Team as a starting pitcher as well as the Empire 8 All-Tournament Team. Cardone’s teammate, Joe Battista, was named as the designated hitter on the Third Team. Utica finished with a 21-18 overall record. The team’s 21 wins are tied for the second-most in a single season in program history.
