Capoccia shatters RFA mark in the mile at national meet


NEW YORK — Gianna Capoccia of Rome placed 12th in the Emerging Elite mile run in the New Balance National High School Indoor Track and Field meet at the Armory Track Center.

She broke the Rome Free Academy school record in a time of 5 minutes, 10.18 seconds.

Rome’s Emily Toth-Ratazzi finished 26th in the freshman mile in a time of 5:26.72.

A third Rome athlete, Sarah Crockett had placed fourth in the Emerging Elite weight throw and fifth in the Emerging Elite shot put on Friday.
