Canine Unit visits Oneida library

ONEIDA — The Oneida Public Library will host New York State Troopers and a police dog from the canine unit on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m.

The Troopers’ Canine Unit puts young, rescued dogs through strenuous training, according to state police. The dogs are first judged on obedience and agility, before being trained in narcotics or explosive detection, tracking, building searches, veterinary first aid, or land navigation.
