‘Can You See the Music’ opening at Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts

LITTLE FALLS — Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts will present the work of John van Orsouw at the 401 Gallery. “Can You See the Music” is an uninhibited exhibit of Orsouw’s art, which often includes a tribute to the Jazz Age, a reflection of his love of the music of the era.

A native of Southern Netherlands, Orsouw has been creating and selling his art for 25 years, and exhibiting his work in both Europe and the United States.

Orsouw’s self-taught journey began in the early 80s when he took over a bar restaurant in Canajoharie called Ernie’s. It was a “go to” place for all kinds of folks. Orsouw confessed, “I loved to cook, and at the time I couldn’t afford to buy nice art to put on the walls. So I painted a nice scene or two to hang up, to give the place some color.” And that was the beginning of his sojourn into the art world.

Orsouw’s more recent exhibitions are the Outsider Art Fair in New York and Paris, the 6th Annual Outsider Art Exhibition at Galerie Belage in West Hampton Beach, New York, Musee de la Creation France and van der Plas gallery in New York City.

The “Can You See the Music” exhibition opens at noon on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, 401 Canal Place. The Artist’s Reception starts at 1 p.m. Stop in, meet the artist and see if you can see the music. Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts is open from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Call 315-823-0808 for information or to make an appointment.
