Camden duo advances to Section III tennis finals

Camden tennis players Adeline Houser and Brianna O’Drain advanced to the Section III Division III doubles finals by defeating Cazenovia’s Julia Knutsen and Emma Schwartz, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday at Skytop in Syracuse.

In the quarterfinals, the pair defeated Lowville’s Annabella LaPuma and Morgan Nortz, 6-1, 6-2.

To reach the quarterfinals, Houser and O’Drain defeated VVS’ Alexandra Rentzis and Marga Villahermosa 6-1, 6-4 in the second round after receiving a first round bye.

VVS girls take pair

On Wednesday, Laiken Kiser scored two goals and had an assist, Sierra Kinne scored a goal and the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill girls soccer team shut out Tri-Valley League host Proctor 3-0.

Keeper Grace Maranville made three saves against the Raiders.

On Tuesday, Kinne scored three goals to lead the Red Devils to a 10-0 win over visiting TVL opponent Notre Dame.

Kiser scored two goals and had an assist, Donata Oaksford had one goal and an assist for the Red Devils. Julia Carter, Marissa Nell, Lindsey Bixby and Sophia Sherwood all scored a goal for VVS. Peyton Cronk had an assist.

In goal, Maranville made a save.

VVS wraps up the regular season at Oneida on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Clinton downs Little Falls

Avery Maxam scored two goals and had four assists to lead the Clinton girls soccer team to a 6-1 victory over Center State Conference foe Little Falls on Wednesday.

Maddie Luke scored three goals and had two assists and Lydia DeTraglia scored a goal for the Warriors.

Clinton is 14-0 and plays at Waterville on Saturday morning at 10 to wrap up the regular season.

Black Knights edged

In a boys TVL soccer game Tuesday, Rome Free Academy lost to host New Hartford, 1-0.

Nick Linder scored the Spartans’ goal in the first half.

Aidan Goodwin made five saves for Rome.

RFA is home for Proctor tonight at 7 for Senior Night.
