C-NS ends Rome’s win streak at four games


Rome Free Academy gave up four runs in the top of the first inning and could only muster two hits, losing a non-league contest 5-0 to Cicero-North Syracuse on Saturday at DeLutis Field.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Blackj Knights as they fell to 7-5 overall.

Justin Swavely took the loss on the mound, going five innings and allowing four runs, all earned. He struck out five while giving up six hits and walking two.

Logan DeLutis went the final two innings, allowing an earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out two.

The two hits for RFA were by DeLutis and Damon Campanaro.

HP pounds out 15 runs

Holland Patent cruised to another Center State Conference win, beating Sauquoit Valley 15-1 on the road.

Jake Beer improved to 6-1 with four innings pitched and one earned run allowed. He gave up two hits and struck out five. At the plate, he was 2-for-5 with five runs batted in.

Mike Benedetto was 3-for-3 with a double and a run batted in. Jeff Sobel was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Conner Stalker had two hits including a double and drove in a run. Joe Diana and Jake Mora were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Griffin Briggs added two hits.

The Golden Knights are now 9-1 in the league and 14-1 overall.

VVS shuts out Westhill

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill’s Andrew Wuest threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout as the Red Devils beat Westhill 4-0 on the road.

Wuest went all seven innings allowing two hits and walking two while striking out four. At the plate, he contributed a hit, a stolen base, two walks and a run scored.

Blake VanDreason doubled and drove in three runs. Alex Kipp drove in the other run. VVS scored four in the fifth inning for all the runs in the non-league game.
