MARCY — Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, D-119, Marcy, welcomed several members of the state Assembly and the New York State Farm Bureau to Oneida County on Monday for a tour of several local farms and agri-businesses.

The visit was organized by Buttenschon in concert with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County and the New York State Farm Bureau.

The Farm Tour visited 5 agri-businesses in Oneida County, and enjoyed a farm to table lunch at Cornell Cooperative Extension that featured food sourced from Oneida County farms. Among the farms visited included: Collins Farm and Creamery, 8744 Thomas Road, Rome ; Wagner Farm, 5841 Old Oneida Road, Rome; DiNitto Farms, Benton Road, Marcy; River Road Greenhouse, 9182 River Road, Marcy; and the Buttenschon Tree Farm, 9663 Luke Road, Marcy.

“I invited my colleagues in the Assembly and members of the Farm Bureau to spend the day in my district and experience first-hand the roll agriculture plays in our state economy,” Buttenschon said. “Our farmers feed us, and it is important as members of the state Assembly to understand the need to promote legislation that benefits and supports the family farm, and the people who make sure we have food on our tables.”

“Cooperative Extension is proud to support the efforts of Assemblywoman Buttenschon by bringing members of the New York State Assembly to our community,” said Bonnie Collins, CCE director of agricultural programs. “By learning about agri-business and its significant contributions to New York State’s economy, these legislators will be better equipped to make informed decisions that relate to our farm community.”
