With the early arrival of winter last year and due to the volume of leaves left behind, the City of Rome will resume its bulk leaf collection program April 15.
Containerwise green waste collection will begin on Monday, April 1. Collection will be the day prior to the scheduled trash pickup.
The schedule will follow green waste routes Monday through Thursday. Leaves must be placed behind the curb, not in the street. Leaves raked into the street cause traffic problems and storm sewer backups, the city says. Leaves raked to the curb or in containers should not have stones or rubbish mixed in with them. Contractors are responsible for their own disposal; leaves put to the curb by contractors will be left at the curb.
Acceptable containers are biodegradable paper lawn and leaf bags or clean trash cans. Unacceptable containers include plastic garbage bags, cardboard boxes and the city-issued garbage and recycling containers.
After the bulk leaf pick-up schedule is completed, all green waste must be containerized in either 30-gallon containers or 30 gallon 100 percent biodegradable lawn and leaf paper bags. Containerized green waste will be picked up the day before your regular trash service. During bulk leaf pick-up in your area, there will be no green waste pick-up the day before your trash service. Curbside brush pile service has resumed; call the City Yard with the specific location of brush pick-up.
Rome residents who do not want to wait for leaf pickup may bring their leaves in containers or bags and empty them at the City Yard Green Waste Transfer Station on Race Street. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and effective April 13 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
Residents must provide a valid driver’s license; and contractors are prohibited. Questions may be directed to the City Yard at 315-339-7778 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
