Building collapse forces partial closure of Madison Street in Oneida
ONEIDA — A building collapse Thursday has closed Madison Street from the intersection of Main Street east to Williams Street across from Church on the Rock.
"There is an unsafe and unstable structure which can pose a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles," the Oneida City Police Department announced Thursday on its social media. "With the incoming weather and winds, this section of Madison Street is being closed as a precautionary measure."
Drivers are recommended to plan accordingly if traveling through the downtown area of the city. The building is the former location of the Madison House Restaurant and previously Gussie's Restaurant well before that.
City Police Chief John Little, Fire Chief Dennis Fields and Mayor Helen Acker were not available for immediate comment Friday morning by press time.
