How to convert a 55-gallon drum into a space-saving and environmentally friendly vertical garden is the subject of a presentation at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd.
The presentation will be led by Jeff Livingstone, a practical problem solver who found the grow towers on the internet and has built several for himself and others. His demonstration will be a step-by-step construction with an opportunity for participants to have some hands-on experience in the process. Materials for protecting the tower from deer and squirrels will be discussed as well as soils and amendments for filling the barrel for gardening.
The outdoor session is being held in conjunction with the Old Forge Garden Club and is open to the public free of charge. Participants should dress for the weather.
