Boilermaker 15K Road Race field about 70% full for 2023 event
UTICA — About two weeks after open registration began for this July’s Boilermaker Road Race in Utica, spots are filling up.
As of Monday evening, 6,150 people had registered between priority and open registration for the 15K race as part of the 46th edition of Utica’s premier summer event, according to Boilermaker marketing and corporate sponsor manager Scott Gwilt.
The cap for this year’s 15K is 8,500, meaning about 72% of the field has been filled for the race set for the morning of Sunday, July 9. About 2,350 spots remain for the 15K event.
For about 10 years, the registration cap for the Boilermaker’s 15K race was set at more than 10,000. However, participation numbers went down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Boilermaker President Mark Donovan previously said it would take time for the race’s participation numbers to go back up.
For this year’s 5K race, 1,615 people have registered as of Monday evening. The cap for that race is 3,500. That means more than 1,800 spots remain.
Registration for the events will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, or until the races reach capacity.
