BOE approves repairs to RFA Stadium in time for commencement

Posted

ROME — A special meeting of the Rome City School District Board of Education was convened on Thursday, with the lone agenda item being a resolution advanced by the Finance Committee to approve a change to costs authorized under the 2019 Capital Project, which change permits an additional $126,063 to be spent on “the installation of temporary shoring” at Rome Free Academy Stadium.

Board of Education President John Nash confirmed that the urgency to pass the resolution authorizing funding the work such that it was simply not included on the agenda of the upcoming regular meeting of the board next week was to ensure that RFA Stadium was ready to serve its role as traditional host of the annual RFA commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

“The contractor needs to begin as soon as possible in order to have the stadium ready for graduation,” said Nash.

The project architect from LaBella Associates, DPC, the district’s architect of record, will work with contractor, National Building and Restoration Corp. to complete the work in time for the commencement event at the Turin Road facility.

The next regular meeting of the BOE will convene on Thursday, June 9. Of note is that this meeting will not be held at the district offices, as is customary, but instead in the RFA library, where a reception to honor faculty earning tenure and their families will be hosted at 5:30 p.m, followed by the gaveling in of the regular meeting at 6 pm, where the RFA Top 10 students will be formally recognized by the board.
