Board of ed members ‘adopt’ schools to show support
ROME — The Rome City School District Board of Education has continued a recent tradition where at its annual reorganization meeting each member “adopts” one of the now nine district schools for the school year.
The members commit to engaging with that school, attending events and activities and sharing those experiences with the board at large.
At the reorganization meeting last week, members were paired with their respective schools for the new school year.
They include:
- Rome Free Academy — Danielle Lubecki;
- Strough Middle School — John Nash;
- Denti Elementary School — Karen Fontana;
- Stokes Elementary School — Jon Maggiolino;
- Ridge Mills Elementary School — Kelly Carinci;
- Ganesvoort Elementary School — Elena Cardwell Reddick;
- Joy Elementary School — Anna Megerell;
- Bellamy Elementary School — Joseph Mellace; and
- Early Childhood Program (at Clough) — Cassie Knutti.
Superintendent of Schools, Peter Blake, noted that it would be difficult for an individual board member to attend events across all nine district schools, so the tradition of each member having a dedicated school to visit on a regular basis was born to encourage that engagement with the board and the various
individual school communities.
“The purpose of the board members adopting schools is for board members to attend events at the schools, said Blake, “and then share their positive experiences with the rest of the board.”
Faculty, staff, students and families can look forward to seeing their dedicated board of education member at events and activities through this school year.
