In one of the first games of the Section III postseason, the Dolgeville girls soccer team pulled an upset with a 1-0 win at six seed Westmoreland Tuesday afternoon in Class C.
The 11 seed Blue Devils got a first half goal from Jakyra Miller on an assist from Ally Comstock to take the lead.
Kerisa Van Olst stopped all 16 shots she faced in the Dolgeville goal to earn the shutout win.
Emily Gubbins made three saves for the Bulldogs.
Dolgeville (8-6-1) advances to play the winner of Tuesday’s game between three seed Sauquoit Valley and Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, the 14 seed. Results for that game were not available at press time. The quarterfinal matchup will be on Thursday at the higher seed’s field.
Westmoreland ends the season at 11-6.
Penalty kick goal is enough for Herkimer
Herkimer’s Juleigh Herringshaw converted a penalty kick for the lone goal of a 1-0 win in the Class C soccer playoffs Tuesday against host Tully. The 10-seed advanced past the seven seed for the program’s first Section III post-season win in at least nine years, according to the coaching staff.
The penalty came 12 minutes into the game.
Bailey Bray had 13 saves in net for the Magicians for the shutout.
Herkimer improves to 9-8 and will travel to second-seeded Beaver River to play Thursday at a time to be announced.
Dening scores seven times for Remsen
Julia Dening made an immediate playoff impact for the Remsen girls soccer team, scoring seven times in the Ram's 8-1 opening round win over DeRuyter Tuesday in the Section III Class D playoffs. It was a small upset by the nine seed over the eight seed.
Dening also factored in the other Remsen goal, earning an assist on the score by Grace Shufelt. Shufelt assisted on three of Dening's goals. Taylor Murphy, Morgan Horn, Jaiden Mahar and Grace Hadasz had an assist each.
Imagin Aiken had six saves in the win.
Molly Amidon scored on an assist from Olivia Lidell for DeRuyter.
Remsen (9-7) advances to play at top seed Cincinnatus at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Westmo modified wins again
The Westmoreland girls modified soccer team defeated Herkimer 4-0 at home Monday.
Ella Getz scored twice and had an assist. Kylie Young scored and had an assist. Isabella Smith also scored. Jules Otis collected an assist.
The Bulldogs improved to 10-0-1 on the season.
