Black River Canal Museum receives grants

The Boonville Black River Canal Museum Board of Trustees has announced that they are the recipients of two grants, which will continue to support the six buildings of the museum complex.

The first grant is from The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., the Keller Family Fund, which was received in mid-September. “The Keller’s continued support is vital for the care and maintenance of the museum,” officials noted.

The second grant was given by the Dake Family of Stewart’s Shops in October during the grand opening of their second store in Boonville. Museum Board of Trustees President Janet Thompson accepted the check on behalf of the Board. Thompson stated, “It is rare to find a company so philanthropic and community oriented as Stewart’s.”

“With six buildings at the museum to maintain, we are delighted to receive this generous donation from Stewart’s that will help us continue to tell the fascinating story of the Black River Canal.”
