The Rome Free Academy boys basketball team won its ninth game in a row with a 73-54 Tri-Valley League road victory over rival Proctor High of Utica on Tuesday night.
The win matches the Black Knights’ longest winning streak of a season ago.
Damien Call led the Black Knights with 19 points, sinking two three-pointers and Ethan Powell added 16 points for RFA in the win. Tristan Hunzinger chipped in with 16 points for the streaking Black Knights.
RFA is 9-2 on the season and will go for its 10th consecutive win on Jan. 17 when the Black Knights host Bishop Ludden in a non-league game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
VVS comes back
After trailing by two at halftime, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill came back behind Dewey Roden’s game-high 22 points to defeat TVL foe New Hartford, 65-58, on the road.
Jake Engler scored 18 points for the Red Devils, who have won their last five games. Davey Moffett chipped in with 15 points for VVS.
VVS is 8-1 overall, 3-1 in TVL play. The Red Devils are back in action on Thursday night as they host TVL rival Oneida. Tip-off is scheduled for 7.
