Bill backing MMRI advances in Albany, lawmakers say
ALBANY — State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-47, Rome, and state Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, D-119, Marcy, note legislation they sponsored providing the Masonic Medical Research Institute with access to funding for important research has been passed by the Senate and Assembly.
The bill, which was introduced in the Senate by Sen. Rachel May, D-53, Syracuse, will take effect immediately if signed into law by the Governor.
“The legislation (S6588-A/A6449) authorizes the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to provide financing to the MMRI. With this funding, the MMRI can continue to conduct research that generates the necessary knowledge and information to better understand diseases and to develop cures and treatments for ailments,” reads a release.
