Beverly Strail Sanford, 88, of Camden, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 15, 2019. She was born on May 29, 1931 in Camden, a daughter of Donald and Ella Dunn Strail. She graduated in 1948 from Camden Central Schools.
On July 23, 1949, she married William E. Sanford, son of Harold and Vivian McDaniels Sanford, in the United Methodist Church in Camden.
In the 1940’s, during WWII, Bev was an airplane spotter for the Civil Defense. In the 50’s, she was employed by the NY Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. The Beverly Fashion Shoppe was opened in the 60’s. The business was operated from their home to help defray Bill’s college expenses. In 1968-1989, Bev was a school bus driver for Camden Central School District. During the 1970’s through the late 80’s, they were foster parents to more than 20 children, some of whom are still in contact with the family. Over her lifetime, she was a sales associate for Amway, Avon, Dutchmaid, Partylite and Watkins.
Bev was an active member in the United Methodist Church serving as Sunday School Teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the Church Choir. Later in life, she and her husband Bill, became members of the Queen Village Bible Church.
Bev was happiest when spending time with children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Beverly is survived by her children, Brian and Marcia Sanford of Clay, NY, Deborah and David Loiacono of Camden, NY and Rebecca and Chris Guianen of Centerville, PA; four grandchildren, James and Rhonda Sanford, Christina and Kevin Quinn, Sara and Benjamin Waterstraat, Joshua and Richelle Loiacono; and a step-grandson, Jordan Guianen; five great-grandchildren, Caleb Quinn, Jacob Quinn, Colin Quinn, Adrianna Loiacono and Gianna Loiacono; brother, Burton and Donna Strail; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 70 years William, and siblings Donald Strail and Harriet Sweeting.
A celebration of Bev’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 from the Queen Village Bible Church, 10050 Wolcott Hill Road, Camden, NY. Private interment, Forest Park Cemetery, Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until the start of the service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bev’s memory may be made to the Queen Village Bible Church.
