BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Red-hot Black Knights rout Red Devils
The Rome Free Academy girls basketball team extended its win streak to 13 games with a 66-24 win at home over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in the Tri-Valley League Monday.
Amya McLeod led the way for the Black Knights with a game-high 20 points. That puts her three points away from 1,700 for her career.
Fellow RFA seniors Mia Mirabella and Alysa Jackson added 14 points apiece. Jackson hit all three of RFA’s three-pointers. Amiyah Ferebee scored 10.
RFA led 24-2 after a quarter and 34-15 at the half.
VVS’ Anna Petersen led the Red Devils with 15 points.
RFA (16-3) finished the regular season at New Hartford Tuesday in the TVL. Results were not available at press time.
VVS (3-16) was at TVL foe Oneida to end the Devils’ regular season.
West Canada wins on road
The West Canada Valley girls basketball team broke a 28-28 halftime tie by outscoring host Adirondack by nine in the third en route to a 59-46 Center State Conference win Monday.
Hanna Burdick led West Canada with 18 points. Reese Fellows scored 14 and had 10 rebounds for a double-double. Erin Gorinshek scored seven and had 10 blocks.
Rebeckah Tittle led the Wildcats with 11 points in the loss. Teammates Ireland Payne and Aurianna Lastowski had 10 each.
West Canada ends the regular season at 19-1.
Adirondack ends the regular season at 8-12.
Van Olst scores 34 in win
Kerisa Van Olst put up 34 points for Dolgeville in a 73-43 win at Frankfort-Schuyler in CSC girls basketball Monday.
The Blue Devils ran out to a 23-4 first quarter lead.
Payton Comstock added 19 points and nine rebounds for Dolgeville. Alexandria had eight points and 13 boards.
Frankfort’s Madison Kelly led the team with 17 points and Nevaeh Grimes had 13.
Dolgeville (13-6) ended the regular season at Hamilton Tuesday in the league. Results were not available at press time.
Frankfort ends the regular season at 3-17.
Cookinham’s double-double guides Poland
Logan Cookinham scored 23 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds for a double-double in a 62-47 win at Little Falls Monday in the Center State.
Up by four headed into the fourth, Poland outscored the host Mounties 20-9 in the final quarter to get the win.
Lily Martin and Maddison Haver scored 10 each for Poland.
Little Falls’ Alexis Kress put up 28 points with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Poland ends the regular season at 18-2.
Little Falls ends the regular season at 10-10.
Big second quarter powers Herkimer
The Herkimer girls basketball team outscored host Canastota by nine in the second quarter to lead 26-18 at the break Monday. The Magicians went on to a 51-44 road win in the Center State.
Madison Marusic had a game-high 18 points for Herkimer. Arrissa Bunker scored 14 and Charity Dygert added 12.
Canastota’s Emma Wood had a team-high 17 points and teammates Emma Grant and Alex Richie had 13 and 10, respectively.
Herkimer ends the regular season at 14-6.
Canastota ends the regular season at 5-15.
Barletta, Senko score 20 each
Gio Barletta and Jake Senko scored 20 poitns each in an 81-65 road win for Mount Markham boys basketball at Herkimer Monday in the Center State.
Barletta added 13 rebounds for a double-double. Teammates Bryce Lynch and Willy Lunny also had double-doubles, with 12 points and 14 rebounds for Lynch and 18 points and 10 rebounds for Lunny.
Herkimer’s Kyle Carney had a team-high 25 points and Zack Petucci scored 23.
Mount Markham ends the regular season at 14-6.
Herkimer ends the regular season at 14-6.
Westmo seventh graders win
The Westmoreland boys seventh grade basketball team beat Shernurne 26-23 Monday.
Anthony Rodriguez led Westmoreland with 19 points. Sean Ace had four points.
Westmoreland is now 5-1.
