Executive director John Rathbun announced on Friday that Section III has decided to waive the .400 winning percentage qualifying standard for the fast approaching baseball and softball sectional tournaments.
Rathbun said that the decision was made by the executive committee because of the weather which has disrupted spring sports schedules, leaving many teams with only a handful of games played thus far.
Both tourneys will be open events, as teams will not have to meet the criteria normally required to qualify: a .400 winning percentage either in league games, against opponents in their class or overall.
The seeding meeting for the baseball and softball tournaments is scheduled to be held two weeks from Sunday, on May 20. Preliminary playoff games begin the next day.
