Barneveld’s Jacob Olearczyk is a champion again.

Fourteen-year-old Olearczyk, a rising sophomore at Holland Patent, won the 65th New York State boys’ 14U junior championship this week at Soaring Eagles Golf Course in Horseheads. He also won the tournament in 2021.

Olearczyk had rounds of 70 and 72 to finish with an even-par 142 total. He won by three strokes after trailing by three strokes following the first round.

Michael Clifford-Levy of East Hampton Golf Club was the runner-up at 3-over 145. First-round leader Dan Young, of Bellevue Country Club, posted an 80 in the second round and finished with a 147 in third place. There were 17 players in the field from various parts of New York playing the course, which measured 6,004 yards with a par of 71.

“Me and Dan are pretty close, we play in a lot of tournaments together. I knew Dan was going to hold his own, and he did for the most part,” Olearczyk said in a release.

Olearczyk joins a group of five others who have captured two consecutive 14U championships, including New Hartford standout Alec Bard (2011-12), Will Thomson (2013-14), Gavin Hall (2008-09), Nick Park (2001-02) and Tommy Nixon (1984-85).

“I’ve been there before, knowing that I’m going home with the trophy hasn’t fully set in yet but the car ride home it definitely will,” Olearczyk said.

In the second round, Olearczyk had birdies on the par-5 second hole and par-4 14th hole. He had bogeys on three holes, including the par-4 11th and 12th holes. He had five birdies in the first round.

In the 80th New York State Boys Junior Golf Championship at the same course — which is for boys 15 to 18 years old — Campbell Jenkins had a top-10 finish in a field of 74 players.

Jenkins — who represented New Hartford in the state high school golf tournament in June — finished eighth. He finished 5-over with a 147 total.

Jack Berl was the winner with help from a 68 in the second round. He finished with a 141 and a stroke ahead of Jacob Dantonio.

Gabe Williams — of Deansboro and a standout at Waterville High School who has committed to St. Bonaventure — was tied for 16th. He had a nine-over 151.

Teammate Gavin Poyer, also of Deansboro and is set to graduate in 2023, was tied for 26th with an 11-over 153.

Recent Vernon-Verona-Sherrill grad Caleb Decker — who also competed in the high school golf tournament and is also set to play at St. Bonaventure — finished with a 155 total.

In the 59th New York State Girls’ Junior Amteur tournament at the same course, Aliya Liberatore finished among the top 10.

Liberatore, whose home club is listed as Yahnundasis, finished tied for sixth among 34 participants. She had rounds of 74 and 76 for a at 150 total.
