LITTLE FALLS — A barn fire on Route 5 in Little Falls was doused Tuesday afternoon after being active for several hours, according to emergency officials.

Authorities said the alarm was raised shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for a fully-involved barn fire on Route 5. Volunteers from at least seven fire departments responded to the scene and battled the blaze.

The barn was located right next to a set of railroad tracks, and authorities said trains passing through the area were paused during the firefight.

There were no reported injuries as of Wednesday afternoon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Little Falls, Mohawk, Ilion, Herkimer, East Herkimer, Salisbury and Dolgeville fire departments responded to the scene.
