Bargain retailer coming to Rome
There are more changes coming to The Plaza at Black River, according to shopping plaza owners. “Ollie’s Bargain Outlet will be taking the former Herb Philipson’s space, becoming the newest anchor at The Plaza at Black River and will sit in between Planet Fitness and Dollar Tree,” according to a release. “Ollie’s Bargain Outlet hopes to grand open its new Rome store in the late summer of 2021. With the recently announced Rent-A-Center relocation into The Plaza at Black River, the shopping center will once again be fully occupied.”
An early October announcement noted that Rent-A-Center would relocate from Mohawk Acres Shopping Center across Black River Boulevard to the former Pet Depot site in The Plaza. The new location will sit next to Planet Fitness and happen by March 2021.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is a reduced price retailer of housewares, food, books and stationery, bed and bath, floor coverings, toys, health and beauty aids and other categories, according to company information.
The chain operates over 370 locations across 25 states - one of which is in New Hartford.
“Ollie’s is a first-in-class retailer and will be a welcomed addition to The Plaza at Black River. We are delighted to be playing a small part in bringing them brand new to the Rome community and greater Oneida county,” reads a statement from Adam Wachs, a representative of the ownership of The Plaza at Black River.
