UTICA — The B Sharp Musical Club will hold a scholarship benefit concert on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Sinnott Family Bank of the Utica Auditorium at the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute.
Admission is $20, $15 for MWPAI members. Veterans and active duty military personnel will be admitted freely, with identification.
The concert’s theme is “B Sharp Salutes America — Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Blue.” The concert will feature patriotic selections and music composed by such American composers as Aaron Copland, William Bolcom, Scott Joplin, Irving Berlin, Gary Shocker, John Philip Sousa, George M. Cohan and Clinton native Ben Moore.
The program will also include readings of works by American icons Walt Whitman, Francis Scott Key, Emma Lazarus, and Abraham Lincoln.
All proceeds will benefit the B Sharp Scholarship Fund, which awards $5,000 annually to talented student musicians in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties. The scholarship is given to one student in each category — piano, vocals, and instrumentation — and the winners are presented in a concert at MWPAI in the spring.
