‘Awaken’ exhibit supports LGBTQ community


OOAK Artisan Showcase, 425 W Thomas St., presents “Awaken” now through Dec. 7.

This benefit art exhibition is on display in the main gallery. Proceeds from the commissions on sales from this show will benefit the Q Center, a local non-profit organization that provides services and support to local LGBTQ youth and their families. “Q Center programming seeks to promote equality, celebrate diversity, and create a safer, more accepting and inclusive community for all.”

Other events related to the show include:

Book talk Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m.: There will be a book talk and speaker from the Q Center, conducted by Joanna Robertson, literacy educator and owner of the Threehouse Reading and Art Center.

Spoken word event Friday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m.: Event for local community members and members of the Utica Poets Society.
