OLD FORGE — Suzanne Schnittman will give a presentation based on her book, “Provocative Mothers and Their Precocious Daughters,” at the Old Forge Library at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

In her book, Schnittman sketches the lives of four 19th century Women’s Rights leaders and their daughters.

The book takes a step back in time to uncover the engaging lives of pioneer Women’s Rights leaders Martha Wright, Abby Kelley Foster, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone, who worked diligently for what they believed women deserved. Letters, diary entries, and journals reveal the strong mother-daughter relationships that not only enriched their personal lives, but the Women’s Suffrage Movement as a whole.

In this talk, the author will weave together these pioneer women’s universal experiences with those of Adirondack women and families from the past to the present.

Schnittman lives in Rochester and seasonally in Inlet. She has been passionate about women’s history since obtaining her doctorate and teaching the subject for years at a number of colleges in New York, including Hobart and William Smith in Geneva.
